Testing email blog posting

UPDATE (30-01-2010): My openSuSE 11.0 still looks the same, as above. Now that's an achievement.

Behold, this blog post was made by sending an email to my Blogger account. It even supports attaching images too. Quite a nice feature this is.

Themed Gmail

You heard it. Google's Gmail offers themes now. Now, how did I first come to know about this? I woke up yesterday night to download some important stuff, started the download, opened Gmail in browser, checked my emails, changed my status message in Gmail to "Sleeping", let the browser remain open with Gmail, turned off the monitor of my PC, and went to my bed to have some sleep while the download was in progress.

The next morning (today) I woke up, turned on my monitor, and saw my Gmail's looks have change. Wo! I was completely surprized and wondered what had happened to it. Or was I still dreaming while sleeping. I refereshed the Gmail page and up popped a message that read something like - "You can now customize Gmail by applying themes by going to Settings > Themes. I went there and found my theme had been defaulted to the "Default theme".

I played around a bit, checking, any of the all new themes and finally settled with the Zoozimps theme. :)

You can choose from not 3, not 6, not 10, but a whole 31 themes. And all of them are pretty cool ones. I am sure you'll be able to find one that suits your taste perfectly.

Emoticons (Smileys) in Gmail

Today, as I was reading a friend's email, I noticed he had used smileys in his email. It was surprising as I had seen people attaching images with the email, but emoticons? And that not attached but embedded in the text itself.

Curious to know more about it, I clicked on the "Compose Mail" button and saw the "Insert Emoticon" button lying there in the formatting toolbar.

Clicked on it and saw a sea of smileys lying underneath, lively in motion, waiting to be clicked. And what more, they were available as "square" and "circular" smileys.

Now, this is one nice option I had wanted since a long-long time. :)

Forum post number in Google results

Today, while Googling casually, I found out an all new feature in the normal Google search results.

If there is a link to a forum topic in a search result, Google will also print the number of posts contained under that topic, updated according to the date mentioned. Other information printed in addition to that is the number of distinct authors involved in that particular forum topic.

Try this search to see it live:

Most Visited Webpage

Thanks to my faulty and irritating (BSNL broadband) Internet connection, my most visited webpage is one of those frustrating default pages of Firefox (yup, you guess it; I am a Firefox user).

Back here, I guess?

My last post here was back in October 2005, exactly 3 years from now. Quite a long period since then? It sure is.

Though I maintain my primary blog at anurag.granularproject.org, I would be posting here every now and then to put forth my views about latest computer stuff that I can't on my main blog.

So, stay tuned. I am back. I am game. :)

The Apple iPOD is the latest sensation all over the world and i rocks!! The ipod family has recently added a new member - the iPod Nano. This new babe is quite featureful and a one advantage over the other mp3 players - it has what we call the colered screen.
